The Lesa Stereo IC refers to late-era, compact portable stereo record players produced by the prominent Italian electronics manufacturer LESA (Laborazioni Elettromeccaniche Società Anonima / Laboratori Elettrotecnici Società Anonima) around the mid-1970s.

Company History and Background

  • Founding: LESA was founded in Milan, Italy, in 1929 by Nello Meoni and Luigi Massaroni. It grew into a massive national enterprise specializing in precision electromechanics, turntables, potentiometers, and household appliances.

  • Golden Era: During the 1950s and 1960s, LESA was the premier Italian brand for high-quality portable record players (fonovaligie), record changers, and stereo consoles like the LF730.

The "Stereo IC" Units

  • Design & Tech: Built around 1975, late minimalist portable units utilized basic ceramic phono cartridges paired with primitive integrated circuit (IC) amplification chips (such as the SN76001N) to drive separate left and right stereo channels independently.

  • Aesthetics: These ultra-compact decks exemplified functional Italian design—stripping audio technology down to raw essentials with built-in amplification, compact plastic or vinyl-clad casings, and protective foam interior lid pads designed to secure the tonearm during transport.

This unit was fitted with a new ceramic cartridge + needle.
