The KEF Cadenza was a classic passive loudspeaker manufactured in Maidstone, Kent, England, by KEF from 1969 to 1975. It featured a famous combination of KEF drivers—including the B200 woofer, T27 tweeter, and a passive bass radiator—laying the technical groundwork for KEF's later iconic Reference series.

Design and Engineering

  • Era: Produced during the golden age of British hi-fi under KEF founder Raymond Cooke.
  • Drivers: Utilized the KEF T27 dome tweeter and a KEF B200 woofer paired with an oval BD139 passive radiator to boost low-frequency response.
  • Cabinet: Typically finished in real wood veneers (here: walnut, with custom bluegrey baffle), measuring roughly 600 x 360 x 300 mm and weighing about 15.5 kg.

    Legacy and Impact

    • Acoustic Approach: The passive radiator format pioneered in the Cadenza helped inform later commercial and reference hits like the KEF 104.
    • Restoration Culture: Vintage pairs remain popular today among audio hobbyists.

These units were fully serviced, including a filter recap, cabinet sanding and treatment with furniture oil, baffle overhaul in buegray, inspired by the later Kef Caprice II (in stock).
