The Siera A5244 is a vintage vacuum tube radio receiver manufactured around 1959 in Belgium.

Brand History & Background

• Origins: Siera was an early Belgian radio and electronics brand.

• The Philips Connection: Philips acquired a major stake in Siera by the 1930s. Throughout the mid-century, Siera operated as a Belgian subsidiary/sub-brand of Philips.

• Shared Engineering: Like other Philips companion brands (such as Aristona and Dux), Siera models typically shared identical internal electronic chassis and parts with Philips units, but featured unique cabinet designs and aesthetic styling tailored for the local market.

The A5244 Model

• Era: Late 1950s tube-era technology (circa 1959).

• Collectibility: Today, surviving units from this 60+ year-old vintage line are prized by collectors for their mid-century aesthetic. Because original vacuum tube components and internal wiring are often degraded or beyond functional repair after decades, many surviving Siera A5244 units are popular candidates for modern restoration projects—such as retrofitting with Bluetooth Class-D amplifiers and modern speakers while preserving the classic exterior housing.

This is exactly what we did with this unit: two custom 35W / 4Ohm speakers were fitted, together with a Wuzhi 2.1 Class-D amplifier with Bluetooth reception, 12V adapter/4A, 5V adapter, a LED strip for dial display, 2 green LED to replace the  tuning eye. The extra speaker connection on the back can now be used to add a subwoofer. You may turn on the unit by pressing one of the push buttons next to the 'Off' button: the Siera automatically pairs with your phone or computer. The 2.1 Wuzhi amplifier is adjustable at the rear. It produces great sound, which is adjustable with balance and tone (treble/bass) controls. A beautiful centerpiece in a modern +vintage interior!
