The Kenwood KR-3600 is a vintage AM/FM stereo receiver manufactured in Japan by Trio-Kenwood (sold under the Trio brand outside of the United States).

Key History & Market Position

  • Production Years: Introduced around 1974–1976 and produced through approximately 1978.

  • Market Tier: Positioned as a mid-tier stereo receiver. It sat just above the entry-level KR-2600 and below larger models like the KR-5600, KR-6600, and flagship KR-9600.

  • Design Language: Features the classic mid-1970s Kenwood aesthetic, including a signature blue and amber glow on the dial face, a weighted heavy tuning knob, and chunky push buttons.

  • Variants: A European version, the KR-3600 L, included an extra long wave (LW) tuner band alongside FM and MW (medium wave/AM).

Core Specifications

  • Power Output: 22 watts per channel into 8 ohms (20–20,000 Hz).

  • Amplifier & Circuitry: Utilized JT-FET input transistors and a SIL-IC amplifier circuit (unlike the dual-range operational amplifiers found in higher-end siblings).

  • Inputs & Outputs: Phono (moving magnet), AUX, Tape in/out (Cinch/DIN), dual-purpose tuning meter, headphone jack, and terminals for two pairs of speakers.

  • Weight & Dimensions: Weighs about 8.7 kg (19 lbs) with typical tabletop receiver dimensions around 438–500 mm wide.

Unit was fully checked and got new Kemet power capacitors. The tuner section was recapped as well. Note that tuning dial is not fully functional and dial knob not original (> Akai). In other respects the unit is in very good condition.
